All over the place especially in the workplace, there is always a discussion about the productivity of a man and how it has to be increased. Before getting into increase productivity, we should be acquainted with what productivity is.
What is productivity?
There is a misapprehension about productivity. People by and large consider that carrying out more tasks in a single day is called productivity. In reality, productivity is carrying out important tasks consistently. At the same time retain the stability and normal speed on particular things, not keen on the most extraordinary speed.
Now we discuss how to increase our productivity. In our day to day life, we face many obstacles when we try to accomplish our work. Many diversions ruined our work and we become impatient sometimes. End of the day, we feel perturbed and lose our vigour. Therefore, there is a system called the Eisenhower matrix. Let’s have a look at that in detail.
Planning A Day
Most of the people do not incorporate any strategy for their work. They naturally do as it comes. Finally, they may believe that they did not have adequate time to finish the work. If we plan our day, we could come out of this sort of troubles for which we need to know about the Eisenhower Matrix.
History of The Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower matrix named after Mr.Dwight David Eisenhower who served as the 34th President of the United States of America from 1953 to 1961. Before becoming president, he was a five-star general in the United States Army and served as Supreme Commander, During World War II. He invented this system in order to meet some tough decisions. If you identify this matrix, it has been separated into four quadrants This four quadrants will guide us if we adopt this sincerely. Let’s check how to practice this.

Quadrant 1: (urgent and important)
we can drag out our tasks to this quadrant which are in need of our immediate attention. They are extremely important deadlines with the highest level of urgency.
- Examples of some tasks under this quadrant
- Writing articles
- Preparations for projects and meetings
- Some tasks with a deadline
- Meeting with customers
- Client’s issues
- Review meetings
- Yoga, or any physical activity
- Health checkups
Quadrant 2: (important but not urgent)
This is considered a strategic section of the matrix, perfect for long-term goals. The tasks are crucial, but there is no urgency to look into it. Hence, we can schedule the tasks by mentioning the following date for a particular work. Items that belong here are important, but they do not require our immediate attention.
- Examples of some tasks under this quadrant
- Reading a book
- family gathering
- Maintaining a relationship
- Working on goals
- Personal development
- Relaxation
Quadrant 3: (urgent but not important)
These types of tasks usually don’t demand our attention because they do not generate any considerable yield. The intention of this quadrant is to reducing and dismissing the works that do not normally support us.
- Examples of some tasks under this quadrant
- Phone calls
- Emails
- Some meetings
- Reports
- Text messages
- Dealing with others’ requests
Quadrant 4: (not important, not urgent)
Activities that fit in this quadrant represent the time-consuming things that don’t add any value whatsoever. Simply put, these activities that prevent us from carrying out more urgent and important tasks in the first two quadrants. It’s best for us to see them in this quadrant, so we can work hard at completely removing them from our regular schedule.
- Examples of some tasks under this quadrant
- Reading gossips
- Excessive gaming on mobile or any format
- Time-wasting activity
- Meaningless web surfing and social media
- Useless talks over the phone
- Watching programs, and news on TV which is futile
It’s a valid concept and it very promptly guides us on what to do, what not to do. We are beneficial if we can adopt this system in our day to day life to increase our productivity.

Hi there. Thank you for visiting and following HoB. Much appreciated!
My pleasure.
I had never heard of the Eisenhower Matrix. What a great tool for staying focused on what’s important. I imagine after using it for awhile, the habit of using time wisely becomes strongly established. We just have to be careful that REST is occasionally put in Quadrant #1. Also, I couldn’t help but notice that Quadrant #3 provides for delegating some tasks. Eisenhower had an advantage there: someone to delegate TO! 🙂
Eisenhower matrix is very much helpful to deal with our daily activities. You can save much of your time and can be productive.
